A Bit About Me
I've been at Teachers College since 2003 and am, at present, the Program Coordinator for CCTE.
I grew up and attended public school in Vancouver, Canada, and received my BA and Masters from the University of British Columbia. My Doctorate is from the University of California, Berkeley. I grew up speaking German and Russian and learned English after my family (parents and grandparents) moved from Germany to Canada.
Before coming to TC I was a faculty member at Vanderbilt University, with primary teaching responsibilities in the area of literacy and literacy development, broadly defined. I was also an original member and continuing research scientist at the Learning Technology Center, an affiliated faculty member in the Center for Intelligent Systems at Vanderbilt's School of Engineering, and worked with the Medical Center (specifically the Diabetes Research and Training Center), helping to develop technology solutions to educate future nurses and newly-diagnosed patients. Much earlier in my life, I was a junior high school teacher and, later, the District Language Arts Coordinator for a 44-school, K-12 School District near Vancouver.
I enjoy being at TC and especially like interacting with TC students, though often wish I had more time to do that!
